Kendrick at Gobi Recon Overlanding is back with another quick video explaining their top five must-have items that they use on all their off-road beach camping trips. Beach camping poses some unique challenges for family or solo camping. Making sure you are prepared for those challenges is essential to enjoying your time by the water.

Here are the top must-have items for beach camping according to Gobi Recon Overlanding:

  1. A Good Camp Table
Beach camping must-haves: good camp table

How you reach the beach may make a difference on how much camping equipment you bring with you. If you are overlanding and doing off-road beach camping you have an advantage because you can carry more with you.

No matter if you are packing light, or bringing "all the things", a solid camp table is critical for getting your activities off the sand. From food preparation to playing cards and everything inbetween, a good camp table will literally elevate your camping experience overall.

Gobi Recon favors the GP Factor Table as an overland tailgate accessory, but a variety of camp tables are out there for every budget and preference.

  2. Remote Communication and Weather Updates
Beach camping must-haves: Garmin InReach Mini

When you are overlanding and remote camping, even on the beach you may find that your cell service is poor to non-existent. One of the trade-offs for immersing yourself in beautiful landscapes is being out of touch with modern conveniences.

Having a satellite phone or other remote communication device is a great way to reach out to friends and family, contact authorities in the case of an emergency on the beach, and generally have peace of mind even when you are many miles from the nearest town.

You also want the ability to keep ahead of the weather. This is really important when camping by the water. Being prepared for a major storm can make or break a trip. With little wireless signal, make sure to have another way to get weather reports.

Gobi Recon uses the Garmin InReach Mini for both remote communication and weather reports.

  3. Multi-Level Bug Protection
    Beach camping must-haves: insect repellent

Beaches are fun and relaxing - unless you are spending your time swatting flies and mosquitos. It's miserable when you are eaten up by biting insects when you are backcountry camping or overlanding. Having plenty of natural and effect insect repellent on hand is key to enjoyable beach camping.

You also want to take a multifaceted approach to repelling bugs. Consider leveraging citronella candles, a bug zapper, and mosquito netting when needed. Your insect problem will vacillate depending on where the beach is and what time of year it is, but always hit the beach prepared for anything.

  4. Gear Organization
Beach camping must-haves: gear organization (like packing cubes)

Camping already demands a high level of organization, and beach camping adds some extra layers when you include bathing suits and beach towels. Keep all your clothes, beach gear, and more, organized with storage solutions that help you keep everything in it's place.

Gobi Recon relies on the Blue Ridge Overland Gear Packing Cubes and other rugged camping gear organizers.

  5. Baby Powder!?
    Beach camping must-haves: baby powder!

Wait! What? "What does baby powder have to do with beach camping," you ask. Well, you may have access to unlimited showers on more civilized beaches but when you are remote camping you can only rely on what you bring with you. Baby powder is a little known secret for cleaning off crunchy sand from your feet, legs, and the rest of your body. And it works better than water! Stock up on baby powder :)

We hope you enjoyed this quick video and these five top must-have items for more enjoyable beach camping when you are overlanding and away from civilization. Big thanks to Gobi Recon Overlanding for their sage advice!
