New: Leif Erikson Patch - Explorers Series
Our Explorers morale patch series continues! Our shop mascot, Sasquatch the Squirrel, recently discovered his family tree - and it was full of famous explorers! In honor of this discovery we are releasing limited run patches to celebrate these expeditionary heroes.
The first patch released in this Explorers patch series was Daniel Boone - and now patch #2 is here: Leif Erikson! Leif, a Norse explorer, was also known as 'Leif the Lucky' - and lucky he was! He is credited with being one of the first Europeans* to set foot on the North American continent.
Leif was the son of Erik the Red, who was the founder of the first Norse settlement in Greenland, and Thjodhild (Þjóðhildur) of Iceland. Norse sagas record Leif as being "wise, considerate, and a strong man of striking appearance"(1). What's not as well known is that he was indeed of viking squirrel descent!
